If peace on earth is our goal, atheism might be the means to that end

Are atheists more peace loving that religious people? Adam Lee writing in The Guardian argues that the non-religious are more liberal and more pacifist on most issues relating to violence: torture, the death penalty, corporal punishment, imperialism and more; and says that if peace on earth is our goal, atheism might be the means to that end.
